SPORTS CLUB Stakeholder toolkit

We’re pleased to announce the launch of Vic Kids Eat Well Sports Clubs. This sports club stakeholder toolkit is designed to support organisations to spread the word via social media and other communications, such as newsletters or organisational websites.

Background

Vic Kids Eat Well is an exciting new state-wide movement focused on boosting healthy food and drink options in the places kids spend their time, including schools, outside school hours care, sports clubs, recreation facilities, council operated facilities and more.

Vic Kids Eat Well is supported by the Victorian Government and is delivered by Cancer Council Victoria’s Achievement Program, in partnership with Nutrition Australia’s Healthy Eating Advisory Service.

The movement is backed by a committed workforce of health promotion professionals from a range of community health organisations and councils.

To increase support in some of Victoria’s most disadvantaged communities, 13 local government areas will also have the benefit of a dedicated workforce of Healthy Kids Advisors, delivered by Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and supported by the Victorian and Australian Governments.

Vic Kids Eat Well is a priority initiative of the Victorian Government’s Healthy kids, healthy futures five-year action plan and is aligned with the priorities of the Victorian public health and wellbeing plan 2019-2023. Vic Kids Eat Well is also part of the core modules of the VicHealth local government partnership initiative.

Vic Kids Eat Well offers participant sports clubs great prizes and rewards, along with access to a network of amazing health promotion professionals. Parents and community members across Victoria will be proud to see their kids’ sports club involved.

The following steps explain how Vic Kids Eat Well works:

Step 1: Sports clubs join the movement and are connected to a dedicated health promotion professional who will support them every step of the way.

Step 2:  Decision makers from sports clubs choose a small step, like refuelling with fruit or decide to make a bigger change, like changing up the menu and introducing and promoting new healthier food options.

Step 3:  Progress is rewarded and celebrated. Vic Kids Eat Well is all about acknowledging milestones along the way – whether it’s skipping the deep fryer, or a overhauling the drinks fridge and saying goodbye to sugary drinks for good!

Step 4: Sports clubs keep the momentum going and work through all the Vic Kids Eat Well actions.
